NEW MARATHON GUIDE INTRODUCES THE NY STATE LEGISLATURE’S 2021 FRESHMAN CLASS 

The 2021 New York state legislative session in Albany promises to be one for the history books, with the largest class of freshmen since the aftermath of the Watergate scandal poised to make a major impact as the Empire State continues to manage the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and looks toward an economic recovery.

For the first time, both chambers now have supermajorities, ostensibly putting them in a more powerful position in negotiating with Governor Cuomo on both the budget and individual bills. The freshmen are going to make sure their voices are heard, driving the conversation from the left on issues ranging from taxing the rich, criminal justice reforms, and tenant protections to universal health care, education funding, and climate change.
