Erin Hughes’ reputation as a highly versatile public affairs professional was shaped by leadership positions in government, political campaign experience, and a track record of successful issue management for corporate clients. She served as press secretary and chief spokesperson for the New York City Department of Education, the nation’s largest school system, where she was responsible for developing and implementing long-term public relations initiatives while managing daily crisis communications. Erin served as Director for Media Relations at the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the largest municipal healthcare system in the U.S., and Deputy Press Secretary at the New York City Department of Health, where she managed numerous high- profile communications challenges, including the 2009 H1N1 Flu outbreak.
Before joining Marathon Strategies, Erin was Managing Director at DCI Group, where she directed client communications and public relations initiatives in the education, energy, healthcare and technology sectors, among others. She led national reputation initiatives, multimillion-dollar issue advocacy efforts, and community engagement initiatives for an array of corporate and nonprofit clients. Erin’s career began at the Department of Energy in Washington, where she was responsible for managing both domestic and international media outreach on behalf of the Department Secretary.
